Spain Declares Isreali Prime Minister Wanted

Benjamin Netanyahu

Did Spain issue arrest warrant against Netanyahu?

Yes, the Spanish national court judge Jose de la Mata handed down the order to Police and Civil Guard to arrest the Isreali Prime minister and seven other Isreali officials past and present, whenever they step into Spain.

Why did the Spanish Court issue the arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu?

The arrest warrant is due to a case against them concerning their role in the Flotilla Aid ships attack in 2010 by Israeli security forces when the ships were trying to reach Gaza to break Isreali blockade in the strip. There were six ships, carrying around 500 passengers, humanitarian aid and construction materials. The Israeli Defence Force stormed the ship in a raid that left nine human rights activists dead on the spot. A tenth activist died later that month due to wounds sustained in the raid.

Who were other Isreali officials affected by the Spanish arrest warrant?

They include former defence minister Ehud Barak, former foreign minister Avigdor Leiberman, former minister of strategic affairs Moshe Yaalon, former interior minister Eli Yishai, minister without portfolio Benny Begin and vice admiral maron Eliezer, who was in charge of the operation.
