Leadership and Corruption: Jonathan Tells Buhari not to Probe Only his Administration

APC few days ago called for the probe of the immediate past administration of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan especially for the $5.5 billion dollar dividends said to have been paid to the federal government by the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.

This call sparked argument and schism between and among the people. Many however supported the probe but urged the incumbent administration to be well-meaning about it rather than witch-hunting.

Goodluck Jonathan okayed the probe with a condition. According to him,

“I think in Nigeria, there are a lot of things that will be probed, very many things, even debts owed by states and debts owed by this country from 1960 up to this time. They say it is Jonathan’s administration that owed these debts… I believe that anybody that is coming for probe must also ensure that this probe is extended beyond the Jonathan administration. Otherwise, to me, it will be witch-hunt. If we are very sincere, it is not only the Jonathan administration that should be probed.”

The ousted PDP which spoke through her National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh toed the same line of thought.

Isa Sagay, SAN; a constitutional lawyer unequivocally, supported the probe; referring to it as a means of recovering Nigeria's looted wealth.
