Diplomacy and National Interest: US Trade Blockade on Cuba May Continue Even After they Restored Relations

Though efforts are on top gear in restoring diplomatic relations between Cuba and USA which was severed since 1961, there are indications that the US blockade barring US companies from doing any business in Cuba would linger on.

But Raul Castro, the Cuban president believed that the establishment of embassies in Washington and Havana would amount to a quantum leap into a greater cordial bilateral relations between the two countries.

Castro admitted that the blockade damages the Cuban economy and pleaded with the US president, Barrack Obama to lift the embargo as swift means to US-Cuban relations normalizations.

On this, BBC says that "the US Congress would have to vote on the issue.
