Six Skiers lose their lives in
an avalanche they triggered off in Queyras mountain range in the French
Alps, police said.
The six skiers who were described as
experienced, aged between 50 and 70 were carried off by the avalanche during a
trek.
Three bodies were found first by rescue
teams in a small valley at an altitude of 2,500 meters before bad weather
stopped the search.
A team of 18 rescue workers, backed
by a helicopter and sniffer dogs, later discovered the rest of the missing team
of hikers.
“The bodies of the other three victims
were also found at the site of the avalanche,” Captain Sarah Chelpi of the
mountain police told AFP.
Over 30 persons die in avalanches in
France and 11persons had already died within this 2014/2015 winter, the
Association for Snow and Avalanche Studies said.
