An Ijaw monarch, the Paramount Ruler of Akipelai community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Chief Asara Asara came against clergymen that have turned their pulpits
into campaign arenas in his reaction to the alleged discrediting statement made
by Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN).
He described it as “mischievous and
dangerous for the country’s democracy.” He advised the clergy to focus on their divine
calling of preaching the message of salvation to mankind rather than getting
involved in politics.
Sequel to the alleged statement by the cleric on Mr.
presidents reelection, the cleric told his congregation that he was receiving
threats via text messages.
Police on their side revealed that the cleric did not
report such threats to them.
Meanwhile, observation shows that the cleric and the
presidency have mended fences already as the Nigerian Television Authority NTA
showed an event where the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan was anointed with
oil for divine favour yesterday by Rev. Fr. Mbaka.
It would be recalled that the cleric was reported to
have said in a sermon that Nigeria would be doomed if Jonathan is re-elected.
