In recent news, stakeholders from the Niger Delta have raised concerns about efforts to undermine Aliko Dangote's refinery project. They have urged President Bola Tinubu to address the so-called "oil subsidy mafia," which they claim is actively working against the success of the Dangote refinery.
Aliko Dangote has spoken out about these challenges, asserting that both local and international entities are attempting to sabotage his $19 billion refinery project in Lagos. He compared these oil cartels to a powerful mafia, stronger even than drug cartels, trying various tactics to derail the refinery's progress. Despite these obstacles, Dangote remains confident that the project will ultimately succeed with support from the government and the population.
The refinery, which started production earlier this year, is expected to significantly reduce Nigeria's reliance on imported fuel. It has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day and aims to boost the country's refining capabilities.
