Sloane Stephens, the Winner of the 2017 US Open is Trending in USA




In a tour de force performance, Sloane Stephens overwhelmed fellow American and No.15 seed Madison Keys, 6-3, 6-0, to win her first Grand Slam title at the 2017 US Open, on Saturday afternoon in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

No man or woman not named Williams had won a Grand Slam singles title in 14 years until Stephens beats Keys 6-3, 6-0 on Saturday evening. It's a tribute to how much the
 has grown globally, and also to the lockdown imposed by Venus and Serena Williams.

The most alarming aspects of the drought for the U.S. were becoming more concerning after Serena left the game early this year and Venus turned 37 this summer. Venus, of course, made two major finals and the semis here, but the rains finally came in the form of Stephens, Keys and another US Open finalist, CoCo Vandeweghe.

Stephens first came close to winning a grand slam title four-and-a-half years ago in Australia. She beat Serena Williams in the quarter-finals before losing to Victoria Azarenka. Afterwards, Stephens went public about what she perceived as a snub by Williams, who had been described as her mentor.
