The
oldest person in Britain celebrates 112th birthday on Sunday. This
is a woman who has lived through the two world wars, the sinking if the Titanic
and the rule of five British monarchs.
Gladys Hermiston-Hooper inherited the title of the Britain’s oldest person this week at the heels of the death of the last living Victorian Ethel Lang, aged 114.

Hermiston-Hooper, who was born on January 18,1903 and she said that she still
feel as though she was 70.
According
to her: "It is amazing I have lived for so long. There is no secret and
hopefully I can keep going for a few more years. I still feel as though I am
70."
Mrs Hermiston-Hooper was born in the same year the
Wright brothers invented the world's first aeroplane, Edward VII was proclaimed
Emperor of India and the Tour de France was staged for the first time. When she
was born a loaf of bread cost one old penny, and a pint of milk cost tuppence.

The oldest person in the world is believed to
be Japanese woman Misao Okawa, aged 116.
The secret of her longevity was eating lots of sushi and sleeping eight hours a night, she told Telegraph.
