Why Is It Called a Corpse Flower?

Amorphophalus Titanum is its botanical name. The flower's botanical name was given during the time that people used body parts to name flowers as it loosely translated "misshapen giant pen*s."

The English name however was not given in the era of naming flower using body parts. Perhaps, one could say that the name, Corpse Flower was given during the time that people used smelling to name flowers, LOL.

The name actually came from the pungent stench that the flower releases throughout the first 48 hours after it bloomed. It takes the giant flower 10 years to bloom.

A Corpse Flower in Denver Botanic Garden is set to bloom and garden lovers have begin to converge in the garden with bated noses to catch the corpse-like smell that will ooze out from the flower.
