After the January 3 capture of a military base in Nigeria by Boko Haram, the Islamic fundamentalists have continued in their onslaught. This latest attack has been described as the deadliest in which over 2000 were feared killed in Baga town, Maiduguri State, Nigeria.

The tail part of the AirAsia flight QZ8501 has been lifted from the sea. TV footage showed a part of the tail being lifted on to a ship, two weeks ago after the plane went down in the Java Sea, killing all 162 people on board. It was not immediately clear if the cockpit voice and flight data recorders were still inside the tail or had detached when the Airbus A320 plummeted into the sea on 28 December. Their recovery is essential to finding out why it crashed.

A German doctor identified as Niels H has admitted killing 30 patients in his care by deliberately administering cardiovascular medication to them, throwing them into a critical condition just for the sake of resuscitating them and taking the glory. He told the court-appointed psychiatrist that he had wanted to show off his “excellent” resuscitation skills. He is suspected of having killed 178 patients who were in his care at Delmenhorst hospital, near Bremen, in northern Germany, between 2003 and 2005 but he only admitted killing only 30.
