A full text of the speech by the President and the Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the Floor of the 47th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS held in Ghana 19th May, 2015



“Your Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama,
President of the Republic of Ghana, and Chairman of the
Authority of Heads of State and Government;
Your Excellencies, Brother Heads of State and Government;
Your Excellency, the President of the ECOWAS Commission;
Honourable Ministers;
ECOWAS Commissioners
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen;

Mr. Chairman,

      I must start this brief remarkby expressing my profound appreciation to you, the Government and People of Ghana for the warm reception accorded me and my delegation since our arrival here in Accra. The traditionally warm hospitality that has been extended, inspires admiration of the brotherly people of Ghana.  It alsocertainly underscores the committed, forthright and exemplary leadership that you have personally offered our sub-region since assuming the Chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

ECOWAS Praises Jonathan for His Mature Statemanship

In the 47th ECOWAS ordinary session  in Accra, Ghana; Nigeria’s president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was eulogized for his mature statesmanship in the 2015 election.
Ghanaian President John Mahanma expressed the satisfaction of the international community about the peaceful outcome of the general elections in Nigeria and Togo. He said: “Ladies and gentlemen, at our summit, I informed you that five members-states of our sub-region would hold election this year. We are extremely proud of the elections held so far in two of our member-states.

Chibok Girls Could be in a Bunker - Shettima

Boko Haram released a new video on claiming to show the missing Nigerian schoolgirls, alleging they had converted to Islam and would not be released until all militant prisoners were freed. A total of 276 girls were abducted on April 14 from the northeastern town of Chibok, in Borno state, which has a sizeable Christian community. Some 223 are still missing.
Nigeria – Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima theorizes that the over 200 Chibok Girls abducted in 2014 could be in a bunker. He said this as the soldiers comb the dreaded Sambisa forest which they have gained considerable control of against the insurgents.
